Begin with a pickup from your Nairobi hotel, apartment, or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in a 4x4 pop-top Jeep or open-roofed van, ideal for wildlife viewing. The park is a short drive from the city center.
Park Entry
Arrive at the main gate (Langata Road entrance) and enter Nairobi National Park after paying entry fees (approx. USD 43 for non-residents, payable by card via kws.ecitizen.go.ke). Your guide will handle park formalities.
Game Drive (4 hours)
Embark on a guided game drive, focusing on the Southern Loop for prime wildlife sightings. Expect to see lions, leopards, buffalo, rhinos, zebras, giraffes, cheetahs, hyenas, antelopes, and diverse birdlife. Key stops include:
- Ivory Burning Monument: A historic site commemorating anti-poaching efforts.
- Hyena Dam: Great for birdwatching (herons, kingfishers, pelicans) and spotting grazers like zebras and gazelles.
- Hippo Pools: If time allows, take a short guided walk along the boardwalk to see hippos and possibly crocodiles.
Your guide will track animals to maximize sightings, especially predators active in cooler hours.
Scenic Stop
Pause at a viewpoint along the Southern Loop for photos of the savanna with Nairobi’s skyline in the background, capturing the park’s unique urban-wildlife contrast.
